I apologize in advance for the large file size, I tried to make it as small as possible without ruining the quality. If it takes more than five minutes to load, please tell me, I'll make a smaller version.
I can't believe I did this. XD;; I drew this for The-Z's Create-A-Nin Super Ninja art contest
. (I had the courage to enter a contest started by an artist I admire! OMG! I may have a vague idea of what a spine is like~)
I don't intend to win, I just did it for fun, though after a while I got a little carried away.
...Okay, screw "a little". I made an ENTIRE MANGA PAGE. XD It was fun, though! I got to try out (and create) some new digital screen tones. :3
Description I went by was:
"This philosophical ninja has a graceful build. His wide eyes are blue. He has bone-white hair worn in a strange style. His outfit includes a lot of mismatched pieces from other outfits. He is skilled in stealth and astrology. He uses his weapon to produce sound waves that can have various effects."
You have no idea how badly I wanted to name him "Yakushi"-something. NO IDEA. XD
Fortunately for everyone's sanity (and mine!), I did not, and I gave him the name of Fujita Ryoichi. Say hello, Ryoichi-kun! :3
I had fun designing him--the hair and the outfit were a bit difficult, and it's hard to tell that his eyes are indeed blue (I picked a nifty shade of blue and turned it grayscale), but I had ideas for the philosophy and weapon details almost as soon as I started sketching. The philosophy/astrology is obvious in the dialogue (err, monologue), of course, and the weapon...
Well, it's based off of a dog whistle. XD
My train of thought behind this: "He's supposed to be good at stealth, right? Well weapons that use sound aren't very good for stealth...unless it's sound humans can't hear, like a dog whis--WAITASEC! That's perfect!
So I combined a few of the Otonin's delightful methods of showing how sound can wreak merry havoc on a person's body into a silent whistle that plays more than one note. (So it's a little more like a mini-flute or something. That is silent. XD;; )
i r teh kreative. XD
Also, the unfortunate panda-masked ANBU is nobody we know, but I think I may use him again sometime. I rather like him. *pets Panda-san*
And that is my entry! I know I won't win unless I manage to acquire an Improbability Drive* and hook it up to my computer, but it was fun to do, and you're definately going to be seeing more manga pages from me in the future.
Drawn on sketchbook paper with mechanical pencil, inked with Uniball Vision Exact pen, scanned in and cleaned up with Photoshop 5.0 LE, digital screen tones and shading done in Paint Shop Pro 7.
Fujita Ryoichi copyright Mary C. Redmon.
To my knowledge, ANBU is copyright Masashi Kishimoto. Panda-bu is mine, though.
