This is Yoruken, sort of the God of Death of the doggy comic I've been slowly simmering on my creative backburners for a few years. Along with being the shepherd (heh) of souls and a stoic, spooky presence in general, he's also the representation of The First Dog--the very first wolf-descendant that was no longer a true wolf. Biggest visual hint of this is the ring in the fur around his neck, where a primitive collar used to be.
Lazy butterfly background/light source is lazy but ~symbolic~; Yoruken's visual leitmotif in the comic is the Spicebush Swallowtail, as black butterflies typically symbolize death. Spicebush Swallowtails aren't entirely black, which fits, as Yoruken isn't entirely related to death. Just, y'know, mostly. (These are green-blue and glowing because, uh. They're souls. Or something. Told you it was lazy.)
Program(s) Used: Photoshop CS4
Time Taken: 3-4 hours, I think? Give or take an hour-ish; basically it was done in one evening of artistic madness.
Frustrating Bits: After I originally finished, saved, and got ready to upload this, I noticed the ankle(wrist?) and hock were in the wrong places on the right front leg and the lower left leg, respectively. The latter was easy to fix, but I had to redo the whole right front leg area. :I (And it's probably still wrong, I'm not perfect with canine anatomy yet.)
Fur looks too dark on my screen, but too light on others. Bleh.
